As the 17th state nationwide to decriminalize pot for both possession and use, Vermont’s new law took effect on July 1st, 2013. Decriminalization means that possession of small quantities (under 1 ounce) of marijuana will not result in criminal record or jail time. Fines for possessing less than 1 ounce will be set at $200 for first-time offenders and increase for recurring offenses

Medical Marijuana in VT

In order to be approved for medical marijuana in Vermont, patients have to register with the medical marijuana registry (MMR); if approved, the issued card is valid for one year and is renewable. Patient may possess (and grow) two mature plants that are bigger than 12 inches (height and diameter, in flowering condition), as well as seven smaller plants, along with 2 ounces of dried marijuana for use.
