Types of Treatment Centers

As the addiction treatment field has continued to make significant advances, the number of different treatment centers continues to grow. The following represents a brief overview of some of the most important types of treatment centers currently operating in the United States.

Residential and Outpatient Treatment Centers

These are the two most common types of alcohol and drug addiction treatment centers.   Residential addiction treatment facilities are those that board the individual for the complete length of their rehab, giving them a secure place to live – safe from the outside world as they focus on their recovery from addiction.

Outpatient treatment centers are those that have the individual attending during the daylight hours or early evening, then returning home in the evening.   Outpatient care gives the individual a bit more flexibility in terms of school, work and family responsibilities.

Holistic Treatment Centers

Simply one of the fastest growing treatment center types in the world, holistic rehab has the individual enriching their mind, body and spirit through yoga, meditation and other traditional Eastern practices.  The end goal is to make the individual stronger inside and out, so that they better respond to more traditional forms of addiction treatment.

Luxury Treatment Centers

Luxury drug and alcohol addiction treatment centers are, as the name would indicate, places built for the comfort of the individual.   At a luxury treatment center, it is not uncommon for the individual to live in accommodations that rival those found in four or five-star resorts, eat gourmet cuisine prepared by an in-house chef, or soak in the splendor of a breathtaking natural locale.   Luxury treatment centers are for those who value their privacy, enjoy their comfort and need a place far from home where they can focus on the process of drug addiction rehabilitation.

Teen and Adolescent Treatment Centers

A teenager with an addiction to drugs or alcohol has nothing less than their entire future at stake.   In order to help these young people break the cycle of addiction, and get their lives back on the right track, there are teen and adolescent treatment centers.   These facilities place a great emphasis on family therapy, as well as the issues that impact the life of a young person most.  Also, it is not uncommon to find education options at a teen recovery center.  These programs help the young boy or girl keep pace with their peers in terms of school.
