Military Drug Treatment and Alcohol Rehab
The men and women of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines make the ultimate sacrifice for our country – putting themselves in harms way to protect our freedoms. But what happens when these brave individuals become addicted to drugs or alcohol? Who will be there to help them when they see their lives thrown into disarray as a result of addiction? Military drug and alcohol rehab programs are designed to meet the unique needs of our servicemen and women
Drug Addiction in The Military
Recent years have seen a dramatic rise in the rate of drug addiction in the U.S. Armed Forces. There are a number of reasons for this increase that are tied to our current overseas conflicts, including:
- Battle stress
- Battle fatigue
- Loneliness
- Boredom
- Isolation
All these factors, combined with a suddenly ready-access to drugs has created a problem within the military: soldiers who should be in prime physical condition actually seeing their health diminish as a result of drug addiction.
Among the most common drug addictions affecting the military are:
- Vicodin addiction
- OxyContin addiction
- Cocaine addiction
- Amphetamine addiction
- Marijuana addiction
All impact the individual in different ways, all of them negatively in terms of emotional health, physical health and battle preparedness.
Drug Treatment for Servicemen and Women
A number of Veterans Administration (VA) hospitals have begun offering drug abuse help for discharged veterans. These services speak directly to those issues that are unique to veterans, including the difficulty of coping with addiction and returning home after experiencing battle. The good news is that veterans do not need much in the way of alcohol and drug treatment insurance options to pay for many of these services, as they are offered as part of the military’s generous healthcare package.
Alcoholism Treatment for Veterans
Upon returning home from duty, many military personnel are faced with a number of “triggers” that often lead to alcohol abuse and addiction. These stressors can be anything from difficulty finding a job to the challenging of reconnecting with loved ones after a prolonged absence. When these individuals turn to alcohol for solace, it can quickly lead to a full on addiction. Post-traumatic stress can cause individuals to feel isolated – a major factor in alcoholism and drug addiction.
