Drug Rehab Centers

The first question most addicts considering, or being forced to consider, entering a drug rehab program have is what is it like and how will I be treated?

Most rehab facilities, which all aim to make the addicts in the population and drug alcohol addiction treatment come together, go to great lengths to provide an environment that is conducive to overcoming substance addiction, healing, and starting the journey to recovery. This can be done a number of ways and every drug and alcohol addiction treatment facility is likely to have its own unique atmosphere and doctrine for successful transition to sobriety. Some treatment centers embrace the community model in which residents are actively engaged with one another to do various activities, and experience change together. Others may focus solely on individual counseling and interaction.

It is important to ask about the treatment philosophy of any addiction rehab you are considering whether it is an inpatient facility, outpatient clinic, or a long term residential drug rehab center.

Keep in mind that there are thousands of facilities in the US alone, and they do range from the very basic necessity types which tend to be for court-ordered patients or troubled teens, to extremely high-end 5-star experience luxury addiction treatment centers. The fact is that you typically will get what you pay for, or what your alcohol and drug treatment insurance options will pay for in terms of the facility amenities and living space. That said, the price you pay should not dictate how successful your rehabilitation outcome should be.

A quality rehab program will treat all patients or residents with dignity, respect, and kindness. This should be evident from the very first contact you have with a facility whether by phone or via email. Be cognizant of the entire process to ensure you are making the right choice. Once you arrive typically a counselor will help get you acclimated with your surroundings, your living area, and general program schedules and rules. The first thing you will most likely notice is that there are no locks, no barbed wire fences; the fact is that you could walk away at any point.

Alcohol Rehab Centers

Though we come into contact with alcohol nearly every day of our lives through either commercials, billboards, magazine ads, at the grocery store, or passing a bar, many are not aware of just how serious alcoholism and alcohol abuse really are. With estimates of 2 million members worldwide and chapters in 180 countries around the world, the Alcoholics Anonymous recovery group is a testament to how widespread the problem really is.

An alcohol rehab center is designed to address the treatment and recovery needs specific to alcohol dependence and often include a group social support setting, medications, and behavior therapy.

Once an alcoholic has gone through the typically 3-7 day alcohol detox program, they are ready to enter a rehabilitation environment. While physical withdrawals will have subsided at this point, the psychological dependency will remain and is what must be treated to prevent a relapse from occurring.

Many drug and alcohol rehabs will offer varied treatment programs to meet individual needs and addiction levels. These programs range from short-term to long-term residential, outpatient drug rehab, counseling and behavior therapy, to inpatient hospitalization for the most severe cases. Choosing the right program, which may include the use of pharmaceuticals such as Antabuse (disulfiram), Naltrexone (Revia), and Acamprosate (Campral), will generally come down to the severity of addiction, patient finances or insurance coverage, location of the care provider, and ultimately the addicts willingness to trust a care provider and work within the program.

Questions about Drug Rehab Treatment:

Can I leave at any time I choose?

Answer: In most cases, yes! There are no locks for a reason. Treatment programs do not work unless you are willing to commit to being there, commit to getting and staying sober, and to work within the guidelines of the program which the facility has proven to be successful. If you are looking to escape, there's no chance of treatment working so most facilities would rather that you leave which creates a better environment for those who are willing to permanently change for the better.

Can I get high one last time before entering treatment?

Answer: Though many facilities do offer detoxification on-site the majority require patients to complete detox prior to entering the facility. It is recommended that you do not use prior to arriving, and that you be sure to call ahead of time to confirm any detox related requirements.

What is detox going to be like? I heard about the withdrawals...

Answer: Detoxification is a process through which the body is cleansed of a drug and the withdrawal symptoms are managed by a professional detox clinic specializing in minimizing discomfort, risk of severe health problems or injury, and keeping the patient safe. Detox typically ranges from 3-7 days and should be followed by checking into a rehab program in order for true addiction recovery to begin. Always ask your detox center about their experience with the particular substance or substances from which you must detox. The withdrawals from drugs such as heroin, opiates, prescription drugs, crystal meth and others can require specialized care.

What is the best treatment type for guaranteed results?

Answer: No single treatment program is the right solution for all individuals, and most programs are not guaranteed. Analyzing the treatment settings, intervention methods, and services in order to match them to each patient's problems and needs is crucial.

Do I need to stay the entire time? What if I feel sober and rehabilitated sooner?

Answer: There are certain thresholds after which significant improvement is achieved and relapse can become less likely. Though you may feel rehabilitated, continuing treatment as recommended by the facility, counselor, or specialist should produce further progress and solidify the results you have worked hard to achieve.

Our family or a judge is trying to force our child to go to rehab. It won't work if they don't voluntarily go, right?

Answer: Non-voluntary treatment can be effective. In a number of cases harsh consequences such as revocation of a driver's license, jail time, or being asked to move out of their home has provided a valuable motivator for treatment entry, staying in treatment, and successfully completing the program.

What are my chances of staying clean after going through drug rehab?

View Treatment Centers Find Local Treatment Centers Now Learn more now
Answer: While many ex-addicts needed just one rehab treatment program to go on living a clean and sober life, recovery often can require multiple instances of treatment even after initial success. There are many factors that can cause this such as traumatic events or co-occurring disorders, but ultimately the best chance for success is continuous participation in support groups, counseling, and other healthy activities that stimulate the ex-addict and keep them focused on self-improvement.
