Developed in 1952 by the Parke-Davis Company as a general anesthetic, phencyclidine or PCP was initially marketed under the brand name Sernyl. Now discontinued for use even in animals, PCP drugs, or PCP angel dust, continues to be consumed as a recreational drug owing to its hallucinogenic and neurotoxic effects.
