Sometimes referred to as "Philosopher's Stones", this very rare psychedelic mushroom whose only known natural specimen was collected in Tampa, Florida by Steven Pollock in 1977. All spores and cultivations of this species today are derived from this only specimen.

In high doses, some have said the experience can become very profound and "philosophical" in nature. According to some, P. tampanensis is considered a favorable alternative to more intense strains of magic mushrooms for first time users, because they are said to create good feelings and provide an easily controllable trip compared to other psychedelics.
