Tabernanthe iboga or Iboga is a perennial rainforest shrub and hallucinogen, native to western Central Africa. Here, the root is shown in a crushed and powdered form. Iboga root is chewed, produces an anesthetic sensation in the mouth and numbness to the skin. Ibogaine, the active alkaloid, is also used to treat substance abuse disorders.
