Drug Rehabilitation Programs and Alcohol Rehab Consultations

Once you identify drug treatment centers you trust, you are able to begin request consultations. Most recovery facilities offer one-on-one patient assessments. It's important to consult with your potential care providers to agree on your rehabilitation needs and addiction recovery goals.

The rehabs directory includes dual-diagnosis rehabilitation facilities, as well as centers that specialize in specific people focuses such as men, women, teens, gay and lesbian individuals, or specific religious orientations; or specific chemical or substances of abuse such as alcoholism, cocaine, opiates, heroin, crystal methamphetamine, marijuana, methadone, prescription pills, steroids, or Vicodin. Often, this specialized care can mean treatment that is custom tailored to the particular challenges associated with quitting a certain substance or compulsive behavior.

Alcohol and Drug Rehabs Overview

Of the millions of people addicted to drugs and alcohol in the United States and in the whole world, few if any are able to break the cycle of dependence without professional help.   An individual can read all the self-help books in the world, but without the comprehensive care provided by addiction treatment professionals, they will continue in a downward spiral – their lives controlled by substance abuse.      To help these individuals turn their lives around, there are alcohol and drug rehab centers, which aim to bring the drug abusers in the world population and drug alcohol addiction treatment together.

The life-saving care found at alcohol and drug rehab programs help address both the physical and psychological components of addiction.   The enhance the lives of their patients in every way – including mind, body and spirit.

What are the Components of Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation?

There are three core components of most alcohol and drug rehab programs: detox, counseling and aftercare.   Each one addresses a specific component of addiction – including physical and psychological dependence on drugs and alcohol.

  • Detox.   Natural detox and medical detox are both the means by which an individual overcomes their physical addiction to drugs and alcohol.   During detox, the individual may experience a number of withdrawal symptoms – uncomfortable sensations that occur as the system readjust to life without drugs or alcohol.
  • Counseling.   Once the detox process is complete, the individual is free to begin counseling.   Counseling and therapy represent the true heart of any alcohol and drug rehab program as the individual is able to explore and address the root causes of his or her addiction.   There are three primary types of counseling available at most rehab programs:  individual, group and family.
    • Individual counseling.   These are private, one-on-one sessions during which the patient and therapist work together to explore the root causes of why the individual uses drugs and alcohol.   Strategies for a sober life are taught here – as well as how to respond more positively to the triggers that induce the behavior.
    • group counseling.   Few people are prepared for the breakthroughs they experience during group counseling.   Sitting in a circle and talking openly and honestly about one’s addiction can be a truly life-changing experience.   By the end of a group counseling program, individuals have a support structure (made up of fellow recovering addicts) that they can turn to in order to help them through the tough times.
    • Family counseling.   Dependence on drugs and alcohol does not only impact the addicted individual – far too often, families bear the brunt of the fallout when an loved one loses control of their life.   Family counseling is a chance to rebuild damaged relationships and help parents, siblings and children communicate in a healthy manner that enhances the recovery process.
  • Aftercare.   The final component of addiction treatment, aftercare helps individuals adjust to life without drugs and alcohol.   When an individual leaves a rehab program, they face a number of challenges, including stress, temptation and distraction.  Aftercare helps the individual cope with these issues in the healthiest manner possible.   Among the most common types of aftercare are:
    • Follow-up counseling.    Sessions where the individual returns to the treatment center for a “tune up” and to get advice about how to maintain their sobriety.
    • 12-step groups.   Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous are examples of 12-step groups.   Individuals attend meetings and gain support from other recovering addicts who have been through (or are going through) similar circumstances.
    • Sober living.   Sober livings homes are a place to live while the individual gets back on their feet physically, emotionally and financially in the weeks and months following treatment.

What Conditions are Treated at Alcohol and Drug Treatment Centers?

Most alcohol and drug rehab programs treat a wide variety of conditions.  Currently, the most common reasons for admission into these programs include:

  • Vicodin addiction
  • Heroin addiction
  • OxyContin addiction
  • Marijuana addiction
  • Alcoholism
  • Cocaine addiction
  • Crystal meth addiction

Some individuals enter into treatment with more than one addiction.   Treating these men and women effectively presents a unique challenges to counselors, detox professionals and other members on staff.   However, with comprehensive, conscientious care, the individual suffering with multiple addictions can get the help they need.

How Long does Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Take?

The length of rehab programs varies according to the seriousness of the individual’s condition and the treatment style found at the center.  However, most programs last between one and three months, with long-term rehab lasting a full year or longer.
