Oscar-award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, known for his diverse roles and undeniably sharp talent, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment yesterday due to an apparent heroin overdose. Authorities found approximately 50 bags of heroin and multiple bottles of prescription pills. Hoffman was only 46.
Hoffman's battle with addiction was not a secret. He had talked about abusing heroin and prescription medicine and admitted to going to rehab last year due to relapsing after 23 years of being sober. The autopsy is scheduled today by the New York medical examiner. Hoffman leaves behind three children.
