College is a time when young people begin to experience some of the freedom and responsibility associated with adulthood. It is also one of the few times in a person’s life when binge drinking is considered socially acceptable behavior. The sheer amount of alcohol available on college campuses can be staggering, and for many “social drinkers” the environment is little more than a distraction or an occasional weekend fling.
For a small but significant percentage of young people however, what starts out in all innocence ends up becoming a full-blown addiction. On campus alcoholism is one the rise, and the risks are great for those young people who suffer from the condition.
